Hand Gun Permits

Hello Gunners,
Wondering how hard it is to obtain a hand gun permit where you live.
You don't need to post your location, unless you want to.

This is just for ownership and range shooting, NOT a carry permit.
I know the laws vary greatly between states.

However, law abiding citizens should have the constitutional right to bear arms and shoot for recreation, correct?

For instance in NY I believe you have to go to the precinct (in your town of residence) register, then apply. Go through a background check, wait for 10 + days for an answer. Then, let's say you have a minor traffic infraction, your ownership shows up when license checked AND your permit (gun) can be revoked.
Thanks,
AGRO-

No permit needed for ownership. No limit on number of guns you can purchase. Face to face sales between individuals require no paperwork whatsoever.

Anyone who can legally own a firearm may carry them loaded in a vehicle as long as they are cased in snapped holster, breifcase, or a zipped or snapped case.

WOW-
That is a far cry from the intrusion into ones constitutional right to bear arms where I live.

Holy :bandito: smokes!:bike::bike::shot:

No permit required in almost all states
(not even California)

In Arizona I go to the store, give them money, they call in the NICS check and 5 minutes later I walk out with a handgun. No permit required. If you have a CCW they don't even call in the NICS.

CCW is shall issue, 8 hour class and about $60. You used to be able to get your CCW in 3-4 days, but AZ DPS is really busy right now, and they are running about 70 days.

of course open carry is completely legal as well.

"Move" To a Gunfriendly state.

Even Jersey (gulp) is better than NY.

THE CITY DOES NOT ISSUE PISTOL PERMITS TO ANYBODY.

You can get a Rifle shotgun alot "easier" but a handgun and you are not one of the boys???

:111::111::111::111::111::111::111:

That 10 day waiting period is a friggen joke....... you file your paperwork and they sit on it for like 6 months stating "we are working through a backlog so please be "patient"

You have to put a gun on layaway before you are even given the permit??

What type of bullsh!t is that??

I remeber I inquired at a gun shop as to what the procedure is if you hold a firearm from another state you get fast tracked on your paperwork right??

No.:36_1_30:

What you do is SURRENDER YOUR FIREARM AT THE LOCAL PD AND APPLY JUST THE SAME AS IF YOU NEVER HAD IT.

So what happens if you are denied the permit what happens to your sidearm then??

BLINK.......BLINK........BLINK....... No Answer

No thanks pal......... no effing way.

I did score an Awesome S&W MP45 airgun though! Exact replica. Has a clip. think it's 450 fps! The Military version, 2 tone black and brown. Fits nicely in the palm.
Too bad I lost it while rafting soon after. Blasted rafts!

Maybe we need a Hand Airgun thread! HAHAHA!! you guys would probably rip it apart!

Umm, I don't think there's such a thing other than in New Jersey, Illinois, or New York? I bought my first gun at 18. First handgun at "21" and took my CCW class a couple days after that.

Here in Oregon: You fill out a 4473, give them a thumbprint from each hand and your drivers license+$10 for a background check. You walk out the door, gun in hand, within 15 minutes of pulling the trigger so to speak.

don't you need a permit in MN to buy

Re: Hand Gun Permits

In Missouri they do a Back ground check by calling in the forms you fill out. You get approved usually within 1-2 minuets--while hes on the phone. You Pay the Man and take your firearm out the door--total time <15 min.

In Missouri you can carrry a Hand gun in any condition in any place while in your car peaceably going to or from. Do NOT STEP OUTSIDE THE CAR with it on you. (Thats Conceled carry and big trouble--unless you have a permit)--However loaded in your pocket while driveing is OK.

That's just plain ridiculous! Even in California? it is that easy..?..

I will say there are probably many more New Yorker's alive due to the mix or non-mix of ROAD RAGE and NO handgun, THUS, I would think certain cities LIKE, Los Angeles, Might, have stricter rules... Perhaps they do?

Anyway...

California has a waiting period on handguns I think. 10 days maybe? So you go to the store, pay for it, get checked out, and then 10 days later you can pick it up. Atleast I think that is the law...I don't live there I live in Arizona as well!

The laws here are awesome:
takes about 10 minutes to buy any gun then you can walk out with it that instant. Pick out the gun, get the NCIS background check, then pay for it and walk out of the store with it in hand.

CCW permits are about 80 days wait, AZ DPS claims they're getting 6000 applications PER DAY for CCW permits. It used to be a 3 day wait before Super-Hero Obama came to save us.

Also you can just wander out into the desert and shoot anywhere you want as long as you aren't shooting across a public access road.

And now for a story:
I was in the gun store about a month ago looking around and BSing with the shop keeper and a guy walks in, polo shirt popped collar, checkered shorts, reef sandals the whole preppy getup and asks if he can interrupt and ask a quick question. We let him. "Hi, I just moved here and I want to know where I go to register my guns". The shop keeper said "You're in the wild west now son, we don't put up with that here". The guy asks again obviously not understanding, "but where do I register them? You know so the police know that I have a gun". The shop keeper says "Welcome to Arizona, A state where you still have some freedoms. We don't register guns here, no one knows you have them unless you tell someone. I don't know where you came from, but don't be bringing them liberal ideas to my state." The preppy guy laughs and says thanks, but really wasn't sure what to do with himself. He looked around for a bit then left.

I love Arizona, I only wish they had water and I'd stay here forever. I'm going to move as soon as I can because it isn't reasonably sustainable to live here.

Correct, California is 10-day wait, $14 DROS fee, but no permits required. No wait on C&R long guns. No private party sales since 1991. I got out of there years ago, but my folks still live there.

AGRO-

Not hard at all. In fact...NO PERMIT REQUIRED.

As in no permit required to buy, own, or CARRY CONCEALED.

Carry anyway you want in your vehicle as long as it's not a loaded rifle or shotgun.

About the only thing that sucks is Vermont does not allow for suppressors. Stupid fish and game law from the 20's or 30's.

Actually, to buy a handgun in Minnesota you do.

If you have a CCW, that counts as a permit to buy.

About going "out of NY" I meant to buy.

If it is as easy to do so in other states than NY'ers could, theoretically,
drive out of state, buy, drive home.

HOWEVER, salesmen may not be so apt to sell once a NY driver's license is brandished.....

Re: Hand Gun Permits

No permit to purchase here, but purchases are reported to the local "law enforcement" entity.

Only permit required is to carry concealed or loaded open carry.

The "Handgun Safety Certificate" is not a permit, per se, but is required in order to buy a side arm. Only a moron can't pass it, so it's not a restriction.

Anyway...

California has pre-emption, so Los Angeles can't pass more restrictive firearms ordinances; the State standard rules.

Each county can and does create its own obstacles for CCWs. Most rural counties in California are virtual "shall-issue." You must have a "reason" to get a CCW but rural counties will issue for "personal protection," without additional clarification/justification.

Why not get an out of state license? I never change my mailing address, but rarely live in the same place for more than 6 months.

It's a pain receiving packages, but it beats the hell out of people knowing where you live. "Permanent residence" is a very vague idea and you can tell people whatever suits you.

No permit needed for firearm ownership. No limit on number of firearms you can purchase. Face to face sales between individuals require no paperwork.

Anyone who can legally own a firearm may carry them loaded in a vehicle, sitting on the front seat if you want (considered an extension of your home).

Also, open carry is legal without a permit, except on school grounds, federal buildings or anywhere that serves alcoholic beverages.
